1. Monogrammed Treat Mug

Mugs are always hard to find at work, especially when youre in desperate need of a coffee first thing on a Monday, so they make perfect gift ideas for coworkers.

And, what better way to ensure that no one steals your colleagues mug than by making it monogrammed?

If youre expected to give gifts to lots of colleagues then you can keep the costs down by making monogrammed mugs yourself. Just pick up some plain white mugs from a thrift store and decorate them with a porcelain pen by following this guide.

For an extra special holiday treat, fill the mugs with candy, cookies, coffee beans or cocoa and marshmallows, depending on your coworkers favorites.

2. Cell Phone Stand

Weve all got phones these days so a cell phone stand is one of the best gift ideas for coworkers, even if you dont know your colleague that well.

And, if youve ever accidentally spilled coffee over a phone lying on your desk youll know that a phone stand is very useful for keeping your phone out of harms way!

3. Gift Basket

Similarly, novelty books can make good presents for colleagues you dont know very well. You could try a book of jokes, famous quotations or interesting facts.

5. Homemade Sugar Scrub

Homemade gift ideas for coworkers are often popular for adding a personal touch.

But, while homemade cookies always go down well, if your coworker is dieting or has food allergies then this homemade body scrub could be better suited to them.

All you need is shower gel, sugar and a body oil such as baby oil. The shower gel can be any scent, although cinnamon, orange, and spiced apple are all popular choices for holiday-themed bath products.

To make the scrub, mix a quarter of a cup of shower gel, a quarter of a cup of baby oil, and two and a half cups of sugar. Add the scrub mixture to a jar and decorate it with ribbons and a name tag.

Everything About Coloured Concrete Driveways and The Contractor

If you are installing coloured concrete driveways on your property, the house may look extremely different. Generally, people want simple patio and driveway in the surrounding ambience but other may have a different take on it. Innovation is the key for the modern homeowners, therefore the coloured driveways are becoming a popular choice across the world.

How to find the contractor?

The foremost aspect of the driveway construction is to find a suitable contractor who can accomplish the task in an impeccable manner.

To start with the customers should be prepared and confident so that the vendors do not gain an upper hand in the project. It is important to gain knowledge by conducting extensive research on the concrete driveways.

You can talk to the experts that are engaged in the same industry. They can provide detailed insight into the work, materials and the construction process. If you are knowledgeable, it is easier to assess the level of services on offer.

Finding several options when looking for coloured concrete driveways is one of the best possible methods for the users because there are many contractors claiming to provide suitable services to the users. It is important to conduct an independent inspection and zero in on the possible choice. You can speak to several candidates and then enquire whether they have adequate experience to handle the task. Sometimes talking to different contractors may make you do rethink on several criteria. In short, take your time and do not try to rush into the selection process.

Scheduling option is the key for users:

Reputed contractors are quite busy because of their huge demand among the clients; therefore, it is important to ask them for alternative schedule to build the driveway. People should not hire amateurs to cut cost because they may not be able to complete the task according to the expectations.

Scheduling the project deadline:

It is a well-known fact that concrete might take 2 to 3 weeks to dry; hence, the customer should schedule the project accordingly. Drying is an essential process to ensure the longevity of the driveway.

In order to judge the experience of the vendor, ask whether he or she is clear about all the permissions required from authorities. It would go a long way in assessing the skills of experts and ascertain whether they are qualified to do the project.

Some of the coloured concrete options:

Some of the coloured concrete driveways options include earth-toned driveways. They play a very important role in enhancing the ambience of the environment by many notches. Brown tan and sandy beige are very popular among the users when they are opting for the classic theme. Darker shades on the driveway are really useful to hide the tire marks and stains; hence it is easy to maintain the driveway.

Grey shades are visible in a majority of homes, but they are no boring colours of the past. Instead, the theme is mixed with charcoal to impart dark shades to the ambience. If the house is draped in light colours, the landscape may resemble a wonderful contrast to the users.

Multi-colour option concrete driveways have recently shot into popularity as they incorporate artistic faux finishes and decorative medallions all rolled into one. Contractors use fade-resistant colours on the concrete so that the surface never ages with the passage of time.

Chemical based colours are deployed as they provide an economical way of making the driveway attractive. Water-based stains can also be used due to the presence of fine pigments penetrating into the concrete to impart amazing colours. It not only makes the entrance pleasing but also boosts the resale value of the home.

So, make sure that you carefully consider all these aspects in your coloured concrete driveways and only then start your project in order to get the best results in this regard.

Estimation of home remodeling

Estimation of home remodeling

There could be quite a few reasons why people want to renovate or remodel their homes. Regardless of the reason, you should first get an accurate home remodeling estimation before you commence work. Perhaps you are looking at expanding your kitchen, adding a bonus room, installing a home entertainment system, updating your bathroom appliances, or simply redecorating the nursery room. As you may be aware, expanding your home's existing structure will be more costly than making an internal home remodeling change. After you are clear in your mind about what type of home remodeling you want, prepare budget estimation on whether your project meets your financial affordability.

Even before you contemplate home remodeling, you need to seriously consider whether to remodel your existing home or buy a new one. The decision to renovate or buy is based on a number of factors, .including type of renovation, cost, neighborhood analysis, market valuation, your desire factor and other issues. Go ahead with your home remodeling if the home renovation costs is 30% or less of your home market value. Renovation projects above 30% of your home value are not generally acceptable for most neighborhoods. The cost would be better spent on the purchase of a new home. Of course, this is subject to the type of renovation and location of your home. You should be cautious that in certain areas where labor costs are tight or where there is a lot of home construction activity, your remodeling costs can be high.

Budget for the total remodeling costs must include construction, materials, construction labor, permit fees, decorative enhancements, and repairs due to remodeling and final cleaning up. The total estimation costs must include all required permit fees, labor costs and total hours required, tools and construction equipment, materials including lumber, plumbing fixtures, flooring, cabinets, paint, insulation, tile, countertops, heating, and ventilation units, Incidental repairs that may be required when tearing into the existing house structure, decorative enhancements such as light fixtures, window coverings, and other specialty decor items, fees of all specialized contractors such as an electrician etc.

There are many software programs available online that can help you to get accurate home remodeling/renovation estimation. You simply state what you are looking to do and systematically go through the steps in the program. The end result will show what your approximate cost will be.

You may have to further decide if you want to take spend time and do the renovation yourself or hire some professionals so the job gets done within the scheduled time and also perfectly. Most people would prefer to leave the work to a professional if the remodeling you have in mind is extensive in nature. But if it is of relatively minor nature, then it may be fulfilling to do it yourself.

Notwithstanding the above, you can also get estimate from local contractors to ascertain what the cost will be to do the remodeling/renovation. This can be useful if you do not want to do the work yourself or even if you just want to see how much you will save by doing it yourself. There may not be any need to negotiate as each contractor is the competitor to the other and so they will try to offer competitive bids. You will, in any case, get the lowest cost possible.

Ensure An Old Rug Has Correct Backing For Intended Use

Ensure An Old Rug Has Correct Backing For Intended Use

Ensure An Old Rug Has Correct Backing For Intended Use

There are several different kinds of rug backings and it is important to verify that a rug has an appropriate backing for the use that it will undergo. Rug backing needs to allow the carpet to breathe, which means the backing needs to allow air, moisture, and gases through. If a rug or carpet does not have an appropriate backing for the intended use, then damage is likely to occur both to the rug and to the flooring underneath it. The full latex backing found on many bathmats is the most notorious for ruining the floor underneath. This type of latex backing is used on rugs for bathrooms for two reasons. First is that it completely stops moisture from getting through, which is important to protect the under floor from serious water damage. The second reason is that this type of backing offers a significant amount of grip to keep the mat from sliding, particularly on tile surfaces. However, latex backing does not allow the rug or under floor to breath at all. For this reason, it is a good idea to pick up latex backed bathroom rugs and hang them to dry after every shower. An easier alternative is to use permeable material that is used to stop any rug from sliding. This non-skid rug underlay is usually available at most home supply stores, and can be used with any kind of rug and rug backing to stop skidding.

Many new area rugs and carpets feature "Action Back" backing. This type of backing is usually heat-set onto the back of the rug. It was designed to stand up to professional steam cleaning without degenerating from the heat and moisture. Action Back has high performance for allowing carpeting to breathe and protecting the floor underneath.

Woven backing is also proven to allow plenty of air, moisture, and gas transference against any hard floor. Woven backing is often found on handmade wool antique rugs of fine quality, as it works well with the wool and lends itself easily to the handmade process.

Many machine made wool rugs use heat-set backing. Heat-set backing has good breathability and long lasting qualities. It is generally the best alternative to woven backing, for manufacturers that do not hand make their rugs. Heat-set backing is unlikely to be used on antique rugs. This is a good way to tell whether or not an area rug is antique or vintage-- the older the rug, the more likely it will have woven backing. Antique rug dealers are a font of knowledge on older types of rug backings, such as those used in antique Oushak rugs and antique Persian rugs; both of which have rich histories in rug making. Before buying a new carpet, consider what type of floor will be used underneath, and talk to the rug dealer to find the right kind of rug backing to protect the floor.

Eliminate Damp Bathrooms - 5 Remodeling Hints

Eliminate Damp Bathrooms - 5 Remodeling Hints

Did you know that excess moisture is the leading cause of decay in bathrooms? And even worse, most bathroom moisture issues will go undetected for years until it's too late and menacing mold develops or structural damage occurs. The following is a list of five steps you can implement in your new bathroom plans to ensure that moisture will not be a problem.

1] Location, Location, Location -
Due to temperature variations related to exterior walls plumbing placed inside these walls can sweat, drip and accumulate moisture over time. To avoid this issue in your bathroom plans keep supply lines and drain lines confined to interior walls whenever possible. If you must have plumbing in exterior walls use pipe insulation on each run of plumbing.

2] Vent out moisture -
If your bathroom plans include whirlpool tub or a steam shower you must not forget that these luxury items can create enormous amounts of steam in the bathroom. You should look for a high capacity super quiet bath fan and don't be afraid to spend more for a high quality unit. Make certain that the new fan is ducted through an exterior wall by the shortest path possible. Most of all run the fan. If you have large steam producers such as a whirlpool or steam shower, turn the fan on while taking a bath or steam. Afterwards, close the door to the room and leave the fan on for a minimum of 30 additional minutes.

3] Toilet condensation...drip...drip...drip -
Condensation on the toilet tank is typical in the summer months especially in homes where air conditioning is not used. The least expensive way to control this excess moisture is by using a tank insulation kit. Another option is to install an anti sweat valve to supply just enough hot water to the tank to keep condensation from forming.

4] To Tile or Not -
Many shower floors are covered with tile and each individual grout line represents and opportunity for water to penetrate. While many shower floors can last for years the best protection against grout leaks is to reduce the number of grout lines in the shower. This can be done by using a one piece shower floor pan. Plenty of standard sizes are available and some floor pan producers will make custom sizes to fit your exact lay out.

5] Design a dryer wall -
Bathroom walls must be designed to work well with the particular climate of a given region. The climate will determine exactly where a vapor barrier is to be placed within the wall during construction. Since moisture generally travels from a warmer to a cooler area, if you live in a Northern climate the vapor barrier would be installed on the inside of the ceiling and wall framing while breathable, permeable exterior sheeting is then used on the exterior. This will allow for any moisture entering the wall space to escape. A local building pro will be able to best help design the right wall system for your new bathroom plans.

These five tips will help make sure your bathroom plans come together with dryness and lower maintenance cost as a priority.

Electromagnetic Fields And Poor Sleep

Electromagnetic Fields And Poor Sleep

Electromagnetic Fields And Poor Sleep

Artificially generated electromagnetic Fields (EMFs) are produced when alternating current passes through electrical wires or a portal device, like your cell phone. The energy that's produced, known as an EMF, exerts pressure and impacts everything around it including the cells in your body. The Earth has its own static electromagnetic fields, with magnetic poles located roughly at our North and South Poles. We don't fully understand these magnetic fields. We do know that many of our basic bodily functions, including sleep and sense of direction are largely controlled by these fields.
For decades, numerous scientific entities including the World Health Organization have been telling the public that there are almost no credible health risks from excess exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMFs). The official public-health-agency position is that, aside from a small increased risk of childhood leukemia, consumers are perfectly safe no matter how many appliances litter their homes and offices, or how many power lines exist nearby.

However, this view is being challenged by dozens of studies including the $8 million, seven-year study by the California Electro Magnetic Fields (EMF) Program. "To one degree or another, all three of the scientists who worked on the EMF Program are inclined to believe that electromagnetic fields (EMFs) can cause some degree of increased risk of childhood leukemia, adult brain cancer, Lou Gehrig's disease and miscarriage," says Dr. Raymond Neutra, one of the scientists who wrote the report.

Ive been educating my patients about the potential dangers of excess EMFs for several years now. Im particularly concerned EMFs and their ability to deplete normal melatonin levels. Low melatonin levels contribute to poor sleep- linked to numerous health conditions including anxiety, depression, fibromyalgia, obesity, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, hypothyroid, low metabolism, accelerated aging, heart disease, high blood pressure, chronic pain, diabetes, and migraine headaches.

The Importance of Melatonin The pineal gland is located at the base of our brain, and the ancient Greeks considered it the seat of the soul. This thought may not be far off, since the pineal gland is responsible for releasing melatonin, an extremely important hormone that plays a vital role in regulating the bodys sleep-wake cycle.

Melatonin is a potent antioxidant that plays a part in preventing cancer, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, diabetes, colds, chronic inflammation, fibromyalgia, mood disorders, headaches, and heart disease.

Once a curiosity to scientists, melatonin is now known to slow down or perhaps even reverse the effects of aging. Its also a powerful antioxidant that, unlike other antioxidants, can cross the blood-brain barrier and attack any free radicals floating around in the brain. This is perhaps one reason why it is so important in preventing Alzheimers and Parkinsons disease, two illnesses that attack the brain.

Normally, melatonin levels in your body begin to rise in the mid-to-late evening, remain high for most of the night, and then decline in the early morning hours. But some things can work against your bodys production of melatonin. Levels gradually decline with age, and some older adults produce very small amounts or none at all. Melatonin is also affected by a persons exposure to light.

Levels start to rise as the sun goes down and drop off as the sun comes up. The eyes are extremely sensitive to changes in light, and an increase in light striking the retina triggers a decrease in melatonin production. Conversely, limited exposure to light increases melatonin production.

Exposure to electromagnetic fields can also deplete melatonin. Do you keep any of these things in your bedroom? Electric clock or radio, electric blanket, sound machine, cell phone, electric telephone, electric fan, television, or computer? In fact, any plugged-in electrical device generates electromagnetic fields. I recommend you remove all EMF generating appliances from your bedroom.

Melatonin levels can also be decreased by certain drugs including non-steroidal anti- inflammatory (NSAIDs), antidepressants (SSRIs), and anti-anxiety medications (benzodiazepines).

Sleep Hygiene If youre like some 20 million Americans who find it hard to fall asleep at night find it hard to fall asleep at night, you may be suffering from delayed sleep phase insomnia- a disruption of normal circadian rhythms. Removing those melatonin- zapping EMFs from your bedroom may be all you need to do for a good nights sleep. However, if your melatonin levels are really depleted, you may need to use over the counter melatonin replacement therapy. Studies have shown that 3-6 mg. of melatonin taken at 11 p.m. helps reset these rhythms while providing deep restorative sleep.

An alternative to supplementing is to get more melatonin in the foods you eat. Foods high in melatonin include oats, sweet corn, rice, Japanese radishes, tomatoes, barley, and bananas.

I recommend that before bed, you turn off the TV, computer, avoid all EMF generating gadgets (cell phones), and find a comfortable, quiet room (other than your bedroom) where you can read something pleasant by the light of a soft low-wattage lamp.

Relax and read or listen to soothing music for 30 minutes to an hour. Keep the lights low, and avoid any stimulation, especially the TV. Simply pour one cup of Epsom salts into a warm bath, and soak.

Sweet dreams-

Elderly Counseling

Elderly Counseling

Elderly Counseling

As I get closer to the designation of elderly, or as my 10 year old son says, "the ooooooollllllldddddd man", I am curious about what the counseling field has to say about working with Boomers and elderly counseling.

All the folks I hang around with are very vital and engaged in life, and I am 61. Many of us have been hit hard by the current recession, and some are worried about finances, but I am not seeing anyone give up.

All of us have had to deal with losses and triumphs and illness and children and divorce and marriage and re-marriage and betrayal and medication and illness and death and funerals and disappointment and insight and wonder and awe and business reversals and business successes, and have created rich deep friendships and spiritual, physical, and cognitive healing paths throughout it all.

Speaking for myself, I am looking forward to a retirement, meaning I own my own time, where I earn my livelihood on the internet, and I am amazed at folks who do not see the opportunity there.

I work regularly on my physical and spiritual health, and I am paying close attention to my mental health, and using some recently developed software programs to keep my neuroplasticity and neurogenesis going. (Never heard of those new neuro-words? Nobody else had either until a few years ago, so read on please).

My workouts are in some respects stronger than those I did 40 years ago, and I just do not feel right if I don't work up a good sweat.

The place where I break down is in nutrition, I eat larger portions than I need, and can eat for comfort rather than nutrition, which happens when I am tired.

So far, I am not finding a great deal of information about counseling for the elderly that does not deal with illness, although I have had some care givers in my domestic violence classes, so that I know caring for an aging parent is very difficult.

Elderly counseling is a new field, and it looks like there are programs that offer a degree or a certification for that field.

The issues that are covered in those programs are final life cycle stage, the aging mind, changing family systems, multicultural issues of aging, planning retirement, family issues, sexuality, security, illness and dependency, bereavement (widow or widower), community resources, advocacy, and life review or generativity.

Certain groups show potential for higher counseling needs including the sick and disabled, the disadvantaged, minorities, prisoners, substance abusers, homosexuals, and the single or widowed.

and Wellness

The marketers have not given up on us Baby Boomers, even though the counselors are still a bit behind the eight ball.

The marketers are looking out for our pocket books, , and offering us wellness, and supplements, and antiaging pills and potions, and coaching programs, and there are marketing campaigns aimed at just us, as there have been since we began to arrive enmass after WWII.

There are some tools folks that I think are very good elderly counseling.

One of them has been put together by Michael Merzenich,Ph.D. who is a leading researcher in the new field of neuroplasticity.

I first came across Merzinich's work when I read a book by Norman Doidge, MD, about a year ago, called THE BRAIN THAT CHANGES ITSELF.

Merzinich was talking enthusiastically about the potential of our brains at any stage of life, if we continued to take care of the 'pillars of brain fitness' and challenged our neurons with novel learning experiences.

For decades, neuroscience has taught us that our brains were fixed and that we could only look to slowly losing them until we were sent off to the home.

Merzenich and other researchers are discovering that nothing could be further from the truth.

In fact, the IMPACT study just published in April of 2009 indicates that there is great value to computerized brain fitness programs like the The Posit Science Brain Fitness Program, created by Merzenich's company.

Brainfit for Life is a really neat book written by Simon Evans,Ph.D. and Paul Burghardt,Ph.D. who are neuroscientists at the University of Michigan. They write for the layperson, and they have culled the neuroscientific research for hints that you and I can use to keep our brains alive and vibrant at any age. They say there are some pillars of brain fitness that we can attend to, which are important in us keeping our wits about us.

Those pillars are, physical exercise, and I exercise with guys at the YMCA who are in their 80's, and they are there every day.

Even at 61 they call me 'young man', like I could not have learned anything about life.

So I like to use the Scott and Angie Tousignant model of physical exercise when I am not at they YMCA. If you go part way down the page that the blue link takes you to, you will meet two of the Tousignant students who are in their 80's and began to exercise to make travel easier.

Stress management is a key piece of the elderly counseling puzzle, and the best stress managers there are would be physical exercise and deep breathing.

They are free and we are built for them.

I tell my anger management clients that deep breathing is good for them, and they nod sagely and go back to very shallow breathing which actually induces a stress response.

So I use a tool called Heartmath or heart rate variability biofeedback which teaches clients on their PC to regulate the time between heart beats, which is a feel good experience, and leaves them with an internal bath of DHEA, the antiaging hormone, rather than adrenaline and cortisol, the aging hormones.

Heartmath also opens up the higher perceptual centers in the brain for your brain fitness work with Mind Sparke Brain Fitness Pro or Lumosity or Posit Science Brain Fitness Pro.

Elderly counseling can be in part a DIY project. I think it is important for us Seniors to look out for ourselves, and take charge of our conscious aging.

Eight Critical Communication Techniques

Survival Rate Stage 3 Esophageal Cancer Stage 3 esophageal cancer is also known as locally advanced cancer as the cancerous cells are found to have invaded via the esophagus's walls and would have invaded the adjacent tissues or structures or/and lymph nodes. The survival rate depends on the treatment and the treatment decision is influenced by different factors. The patient's survival rate during stage 3 esophageal cancer might be poor and the main purpose of getting treated during this stage would be to enhance the curing chances or to prolong the survival of the patient by controlling the cancer locally. Each and every patient is unique that the treatment principles are influenced by various prognostic factors and according to the distinct circumstances. Before choosing a particular treatment option it is always better to know the various treatment options. Patients who are in stage 3 esophageal cancer might often need two or more therapies for obtaining maximum results out of them. Hence these cancer patients can opt to get treated in medical centers which are capable of providing different treatment modalities involving surgeons, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, nutritionists and medical gastroenterologists. Two famous and presently available choice of treatments for stage 3 esophageal cancer patients for better survival rates includes radiation therapy and chemotherapy without surgery or prior to surgery as surgery alone might not be sufficient for the cancer patients in this stage. Chemotherapy is normally given along with radiation therapy for patients in their stage 3 esophageal cancer; it is nothing but administration of anti cancer drugs that are designed for treating the disease in a systematic manner. When the above two are combined the effectiveness of the treatment is increased as chemotherapy is believed to destroy the cancerous cells which might not be reached through radiation therapy. Observations have proved that survival rates are prolonged than in patients who do not undergo surgery without or with radiation treatment. Radiation therapy and/or chemotherapy administered before surgery is called as neoadjuvant therapy. This is found effective in lowering the size of cancer enabling to remove along with surgery easily. The main advantage of this therapy is that it can be administered as soon as possible for destroying cancerous cells by minimizing the size of cancerous cells which has spread away from the actual place of origination enabling easy surgical resection. There is a big debate surrounding this therapy as mortality rates are higher in patients who have undertook this treatment option just like the improved results in some. Strategies for improving the treatment options for patients with stage 3 esophageal cancers has been continuously thought of and implemented which includes supportive care, treatment after surgery, treatment before surgery, gene therapy and so on. Natural Remedies: There are certain natural remedies that offer a promising cure for esophageal cancer. Easy Hacks to Organize Your Entire House

We all thrive to live in a neat and organized house but decluttering a whole house seems to terrify all of us. Where do we even start? Some have solved this problem, by simply having fewer possessions less to clean and organize means less stress. If youre not sure how to begin, start sorting through items in a particular area and getting rid of stuff you dont need when you start each room. That way, you will maybe get some new ideas on how to organize each room. The decluttering task doesnt need to be as painful as some make it out to be. Actually, there are a variety of people who have come up with some pretty fun ways to get started.

Keep counters clear

Avoid leaving random items on top of counters and other flat surfaces. Clutter is like a magnet as soon as you put one thing, it will only attract more. Dirty dishes piling up is a big no-no as soon as you finish using them, they go right into the sink/dishwasher. Same goes for anything else. Unless that item is used every day like a coffee maker keep it a no-clutter zone.

Theres a place for everything

Forget about the junk drawer it is a thing of the past. You need to create defined space for all the things. Most of the people who have clutter problems usually have it because theyre not sure how to find a clear place where something belongs. You need to assign specific places for every item, and if theres no place for an item, then its doomed to turn into clutter. Find a specific place for loose change, keys, remote controls, office supplies, or even sunscreen. Do your children struggle with keeping their rooms clean? Help them find the right place for their toys/belongings as well.

Give away one item a day

Another solid advice is to try to find one item every day which you dont need and give it away, throw it or donate it. Youd be surprised after a while how much clutter youve actually cleaned out, and your home organization will drastically improve after that. Strive to keep what you consider to be truly beautiful and/or useful in your home. Otherwise, its just using up space.

One in one out

If you have limited storage it's especially important to not consistently accumulate more than you can put away. Implement the 'One In, One Out Rule'. When you purchase something new or when a family member is given gifts on special occasions; make an effort to remove a similar item you already own. Resolve to declutter the common living areas of your home every evening (perhaps a few times a day if you're living with small children).

If you didnt use it for 6 months

Anything that hasnt been used in over six months in your home needs to be gone. That includes all gadgets, sports gear, or anything you can accumulate in your garage (lets face it, that room is the most likely to become a big clutter mess). Remember those skis and other gear you bought 6 years ago? Out. Self storage professionals point out that by decluttering your garage youll have more space for improvements in your own home because there will be more storage area available. Of course, if you dont feel like giving away some of the seasonal things, you can put them in storage.

Fill one trash bag

Early in our journey towards simplicity, one of the simplest decluttering techniques is to grab a simple large trash bag and see how quickly you can fill it. Although much of what you collect may be trash, you can also use this strategy to fill the bag for charity, and donate some things to the less fortunate.

Final thoughts

No matter what you choose to help you get started whether its the advice from here or something youve heard from a friend the goal is to take your first step and finish the job. You too can have an organized home with a little effort and creativity. There is a beautiful world hiding behind that clutter. How you remove it is up to you. And of course, not only are should you keep your house clean, you should also take care of your environment, as well

Drive to Point Arena one of California's most scenic

One of the Californias most scenic coastal drives is just a couple of hours north of San Francisco an enchanting coastal highway youll want to savor as you experience breathtaking scenery as well as many historical attractions from elaborate wooden forts to picture-postcard lighthouses.

The drive starts in Bodega Bay, just 22 miles through rolling hills from Petaluma and Highway 101. For us, Bodega always reminds us of the famous Alfred Hitchcock movie, The Birds, which was, of course, was filmed at Bodega Bay. While its been nearly a half-century since Cary Grant was in town to make that movie, birds are still big business in Bodega.

You cant cross the street without some reminder that the movie was filmed there. The Tides Restaurant featured prominently in the movie now has a gift shop that has become a near-museum with its shelves and shelves of stuffed birds, Hitchcock posters, location photos and just about any kind of clothing you want emblazoned with some variation of Bodega Bay or "The Birds." Of course, no matter that the "real" restaurant burned down long ago and the replacement buildings bear no resemblance to those used in the movie.

What does remain is the same sleepy seaside village that appeared in the movie. Down at the Tides Restaurant, there still is a bit of the waterfront flavor seen in the movie. Fishing trawlers bring their fresh catch to a seafood company on the dock, and there are always plenty of barking sea lions hoping to dine on leftovers. In the movie, Tippy Hedron rented a small motorboat at this dock before motoring across the bay to her new boyfriends house.

About 20 miles north of Bodega is Jenner, a small coastal town with commanding views of the Russian River and the Pacific Ocean. Vacation rentals are popular in Jenner, and youll be tempted to stop at Goat Rock State Park, a photographers favorite with its views of the craggy rock towers that poke dramatically through the frothy waves.

About 12 miles north of Jenner, we stopped at Fort Ross State Historic Park, a well-preserved piece of California coastal history. One of the oldest parks in the state system, Fort Ross had its beginnings in 1812 when a party of 25 Russians joined with 80 native Alaskans to start construction of a fort including a stockade, blockhouses and several log buildings. They chose a relatively flat bluff overlooking the Pacific that offered plenty of space for Native American encampments that would sprout up alongside the fort.

Fort Ross was established as a California colony for the Russians, who could not grow enough food in Alaska to support themselves. Not only was this area a source of food, but also of sea otters which proved quite profitable for the Russians. Today, visitors can tour the buildings, some of which offer authentic displays with artifacts such as 19th Century musket rifles or household tools and other items actually used by the Russians. Out in the courtyard we noticed there were several real cannons we know they were real because Park Service employees were firing them off in a demonstration for a group of school children. The park, in general, is well worth the $6 per car admission.

Heading northward on Highway 1 there are almost continuous vistas of the ocean, including many opportunities for beach access. The day we were touring, a thick layer of white fluffy clouds was just offshore and had descended enough that tourists could stop at the coastal vistas and actually look down on the clouds.

Another 40 miles of spectacular views and we approached the Point Arena area, where we planned to spend the night. About a mile off the highway is the Arena Cove and perched on a hill overlooking the cove was the Coast Guard House Historic Inn, a popular bed-and-breakfast that figures prominently in this areas history.

The Coast Guard was preceded by the U.S. Life-saving Service which was established in the late 19th Century as a means of providing rescue to the many mariners who lost ships or got into trouble in the fog or on the stormy seas just off the point. In 1901, the Cape Code-style building now known as the Coast Guard House was built as a life-saving station -- a place for members of the Life-saving Service to live. Much like todays firehouses, the rescuers lived together and were available on short notice for emergencies. In those days, they rowed out to the stricken ships in long boats that seemed almost as hazardous as the ships they were rescuing.

Innkeeper Kevin Gallagher has turned this historic building into an especially charming inn that offers guests a choice between rooms in the main building or separate cottages just behind the building. We enjoyed a tiny, yet unique accommodation called the Flag Room which was ideal for a couple or single person. The room basically is a Queen bed, a private bathroom and a dining or reading area that includes a couch-like bench, table and three large windows overlooking the Arena Cove and the sea beyond. The bedroom area, while small, seems open because it also has a wall full of windows. Furnishings, floors -- everything in this room is upscale.

Judging from the conversation at the breakfast table, guests do find the inn to their liking. Over an elaborate Spanish-style omelet, fresh pastries, juice and coffee, we enjoyed meeting an extended family that had booked several rooms for their group as they toured California with family members from Israel. The guests who stayed in the cottages enjoyed their breakfast in their rooms. Like innkeepers at many bed-and-breakfast inns, Gallagher a Philadelphia native -- is a gracious and affable host who makes a point of getting to know each of his guests, whether at breakfast or while they are enjoying some quiet relaxation in the reading room.

The life-saving station helped, but there also was the need for a good, strong light beam to guide ships away from hazards. During the 1860s, ships carrying lumber past Point Arena would go aground almost weekly. So it was in 1866 that the government funded the Point Arena Lighthouse. While the original was damaged beyond repair in the 1906 earthquake, the replacement lighthouse stands to this day and is a popular stop just a couple miles north of the town of Point Arena.

Near the base of the Point Arena Lighthouse is a small museum and gift shop where visitors can spend a few minutes while they wait for the next tour to the top of the lighthouse. With more than a hundred steps, the stairs to the top can be challenging for older visitors, but the spiral staircase leads to a unique up-close look at the famous Fresnel lens a lens that makes the light visible 18 miles at sea. There are also great views of the coastline from the top, although the best photo opportunities are just a quarter-mile or so from the lighthouse where you can also look out on the rocks and tidepools.

Maybe the best place of all to view the rocky coastline is the Stornetta Public Lands, just a short walk on a trail located at the first bend in the road once you leave the lighthouse. For wide open beaches, there is no better place along here than Manchester State Park, with its dunes and scenic views of the Point Arena Lighthouse.

Drinking Games Using Playing Cards

It's fun to drink and even better when you play drinking games with friends. There are many types of games to consider when you drink and one of the best games to play - in order to keep the booze going - is an old-fashioned game of cards. There are a hundred drinking games using playing cards and surely there is a new and hilarious game created every day. But here are some of the best and most traditional games that are played using cards as you drink and have fun all night long:

* Circle Jerk - you need a full deck of cards all faced down in a circle and of course plenty of drinks at hand (beer, vodka, rum, etc). After playing Circle Jerk everyone will surely be so hammered no one will remember you played it in the first place! Players take turns picking cards and each card has a corresponding rule:

Ace - the first to put his thumb on the table will get this "free card" this is a pass to do anything you want, except quit. The last guy who placed his thumb on the table has to drink one glass down.

2 - 5 - the player who picked these cards will get to hand out drinks to all the players, each player has to drink his glass all the way down.

6 and 9 - are swear cards. Everybody decides on a swear word in the beginning of the drinking game and when these cards are drawn everyone has to say the swear word. The last one will have to drink glass down.

7 - A rule card that allows the player to make up any rule he wants.

8 - A bathroom pass card. No one is allowed to excuse himself to go to the bathroom without this precious card.

10 - Is a drink card. Everyone has to drink starting with the one who picked the card.

Jack - a category card. The player who picked this card has to think of a category that each one has to answer; the person who cannot has to drink.

Queen - the person to the right of the player drinks.

King - the person who pulls out the last of the four kings has to finish everybody else's drinks.

* High Low - you need to guess if the next card from a deck is higher or lower. You need a full deck of cards, plenty of drinks for everyone and a whole lot of luck! This game, from Penn State University, can go on all night. A person who has guessed 5 straight correct guesses takes over the draw until another player gets 5 straight correct guesses. If you guessed wrong, then drink up!

* Patio Caps - created by an avid beer drinker who claims this drinking game is way better than Beer Pong. You need a patio table with a hole in the middle for the umbrella, a case or more beer, a deck of cards and a whole lot skill! The rule is simple, tossing caps in the table hole that corresponds to the card that you drew. For every miss, you drink. No bathroom breaks, throwing up and passing turns.

Endurance is the key to these drinking games - and the result? More reason to drink and have fun; enjoy!

Dress Up Ugly Plaster Walls And Ceilings With Your Own Custom Textures

In some parts of the United States, the most popular wall textures are NO TEXTURE. Smooth. Same goes for ceiling textures. This means a perfectly flat and blemish free surface.

But out here in the wild and woolly Pacific Coast where I live, plaster and drywall textures are popular. Some will say that is because textures tend to hide a bad plaster or drywall job.

In some cases, could be. But it could also be that people LIKE the look of a textured surface. Some wall and ceiling textures are gorgeous. (see Author's information below for photos of textures you can do)

In my work with old plaster and drywall, I find the demand for wall and ceiling textures to be high, and so I have my bundle of texture sample boards to show clients.

Most of my jobs involve either matching an existing texture or applying one of my own unique patterns.

And sometimes my customers like to watch as I put on the texture they have chosen. I may hear comments like: "Hey, that looks like fun!" and "How hard is it to do that?"

And my answer to both kinds of questions is, "Yes, it's fun and I bet you could learn to do this, too."

Sometimes I may recognize that I am not being 100% honest when I say this. After 35+ years, it's not ALWAYS fun, and yes, some textures take some practice to do well -- but behind my response there lies a strong kernel of truth: this is essentially a fun project that a motivated do-it-yourselfer can master with practice and patience.

And that may mean you!

But before you jump in with both feet, allow me to give you a few hints to get you started right. These are things I have learned over the years, some by trial and error.

Because ... I don't always get it right the first time. And you probably won't either. Hence the need, once you get going, to EXPERIMENT and PRACTICE.

The easiest texture materials to use are those designed for drywall. They work for plaster as well. They will stick to both painted and unpainted plaster and drywall.

Standard all-purpose drywall compounds can be thinned and used as texture. Or you can buy boxes of pre-mixed texture compound. Texture compound also comes as bags of powder. (At least true for the U.S.)

Pre-mixed texture mud may need to be thinned. Same goes for pre-mixed all purpose muds. If you mix your texture compound from powder, keep track of your powder-water ratio so you can duplicate it anytime in the future.

The only way you will know if your mud is the right thickness is by experimenting with your tools and textures until you get the effect you like.

Some effects need thicker mud, some thinner. If you are mixing from powder, remember that it is easier to thin your inital mix than to thicken it. In any case, when mixing from scratch, let soak overnight to soften lumps and get it smoother.

Texturizing tools can run the gamut from taping knives to trowels, to various kinds of brushes, to texture rollers and even to commercial texturing tools.

I have even used my hands, ala fingerpainting in grade school. What fun!

Several words to emphasize: EXPERIMENT, CONSISTENCY, PATIENCE.

By experimenting, you discover the thickness of mud that is easiest to work with. You find what tools you like best. Consistency of application is your goal.

(For example, there are some absolutely stunning texture effects I can do, but I have a very hard time getting them to be consistent over the whole wall or ceiling, expecially if these are large.)

And patience will insure that you don't give up easily. Give yourself time to learn.

You will need to practice your technique before you tackle that wall or ceiling. Scraps of drywall or heavy cardboard or even painted plywood will work as a substitute surface.

One thing to remember - once you go for real, you are committed. That is, once you start, you will have to go corner to corner, the whole thing. With many textures, there is no leaving off in the middle.

This is why you probably need to start small. Try a small ceiling, or a small room of walls. When you can do that to your satisfaction, then you may be ready for something bigger.

When you are all done, and ready for paint, be sure to apply a good coat of drywall primer (PVA) first. This will lock up the porosity of your textured surface and provide the foundation for a much better paint coat later.

Now go have some fun!

Double Deep Pallet Racking - Your Complete Guide

Double Deep Pallet Racking - Your Complete Guide

Double Deep Pallet Racking - Your Complete Guide

As the name suggests, Double Deep Pallet Racking enables palletised items to be stored two rows deep and provides superior storage density to alternative systems such as wide aisle. These storage systems are either installed against a wall or back-to-back. The racking design consists of steel beams and upright frames and can be purpose built to accommodate light, medium and heavy duty loads, as required. Loading and unloading items requires the use of specialised attachments or purpose-built forklifts such as reach trucks or articulated forklifts.

The system operates using the FILO (first in, last out) method of storage. Whilst retrieval of pallets located at the backend can lack the efficiency of other systems, this can be overcome through the use of an intelligent inventory management software that will allow you to take full advantage of the enhanced storage capacity.

What Are the Advantages of Double Deep Pallet Racking?

High density storage solution that maximises floor space
Front and back row items can be loaded and unloaded from the same aisle
Low initial costs, high level productivity
Upper storage levels can be equipped with rails to help forklift operators retrieve items and decrease the likelihood of human error
System can be custom built to support light and heavy weight loads
Ideal for use with a diverse range of industries including hospitality, manufacturing and industrial
Reduction in aisles results in less time spent travelling between different picking areas
Perfect for storing bulk items
Improves the overall efficiency of a storage facility
Ideal for inventory that has a medium to long shelf life
Great for storing food items with a high turnover

What Are the Disadvantages of Double Deep Pallet Racking?

Selectivity is not as efficient as some other storage systems
Access requires forklifts that have special telescopic fork attachments or are purpose built for double deep rack systems, such as pantograph reach trucks or articulated forklifts

What Type of Forklifts Are Required for Double Deep Pallet Racking?

The two most common types of forklifts for double deep systems are reach trucks (pantograph and non-pantograph) and articulated forklifts. Non-pantograph forklifts can be modified to work with double deep systems through the addition of telescopic fork attachments.

Below is a list of pros and cons for each:

Telescopic Forks:

The telescopic attachment enables non-pantograph forklifts to use double deep systems. The attachment is powered by hydraulics, which enables the operator to move the forks backwards and forwards, independently of the forklift itself, allowing pallets to be placed and retrieved along the back row.

Pros

Less expensive than pantograph reach trucks
Telescopic attachments enable forklift to operate in narrower aisles than standard manual ones
Enhances materials handling ability, while reducing risk of inventory damage
Doesnt obscure forklift operators vision, unlike pantograph reach trucks

Cons

The attachment causes a reduction in lifting capabilities

Pantograph Forklift

Pantograph reach trucks are purpose built for double deep rack systems and offer superior performance to telescopic fork attachments.

Pros

Able to operate in narrow aisles
Quicker loading and unloading times
Ensures safer handling of pallets, decreasing chances of stock damage

Cons

Operator visibility is inferior to telescopic forks
More expensive than telescopic forks

Additional Safety Options

Every storage system benefits from the addition of pallet racking protectors that help to protect storage racks from forklift damage, while preventing injuries to personnel. These include rack end protectors, safety mesh, timber and metal decking, extra heavy duty beams, corner barriers, column guards and more.

Its important to always have appropriate load signs and safety labels, and other relevant signage in place, as well. Consult with your local parts supplier for advice on the best protective equipment for your double deep pallet system.

Dog Smell How To Stop The Foul Odor

Dog Smell How To Stop The Foul Odor

If your dog smells, and you are thinking twice about even having your dog inside, then you definitely need to read this article. Your dog does produce a 'normal' odor, primarily through the variety of glands found in their skin, ears, and paws. But your dog can also have a serious and unpleasant smell, such as from skin infections, and other disorders. This article will show you the most common causes of dog odor, and how you can diagnose the cause of your dog's bad smell. I will then show you to most important natural options to quickly and easily stop your dog's foul odor.

The first thing that you need to do is diagnose exactly what is causing the dog odor. Start by properly examining your dog's mouth, and seeing if they have bad breath. Carefully look at the gums and teeth, looking for signs of gum recession, and tooth root abscess. This would require veterinary care. Some dogs with halitosis (bad breath), respond well to remedies for plaque; I have had particular success using a product called Plaque Off.

Ear infections are one of the more common causes of unpleasant dog odor, so you should thoroughly examine your dog's ears. Look at the outside of the ear ( the pinna) and closely look into the external ear canal. It should be clear, a light pink color, and free of any debris. Yeast infections are common in the ear, and they often produce a dark brown, waxy discharge. They respond well to cleaning with dilute Apple Cider Vinegar and water.

The anal glands are often implicated as a source of doggie odor, especially if the smell is 'fishy'. These are scent glands, which historically were important, yet now they are just a nuisance. The glands are normally expressed when your dog has a bowel movement, but can become impacted, and sometimes infected producing the strong smell. You can check your dog's glands, ( use a lubricated rubber glove), inserting your index finger in their anus, palpating the glands at 10 o clock ( on the left), and 2 o clock ( on the right). Apply firm pressure with your thumb and index finger to express the gland. Infected glands are generally weeping, open and very painful; they require veterinary care.

Skin disorders are the most common cause of recurring and strong dog odor; skin infections secondary to allergies is what is most often diagnosed. If your dog has a history of itching, or recurring ear infections, then they likely have some type of allergy. There are a variety of treatments for allergies, but I find it most important to stop the itching, and supplement to decrease inflammation. An antihistamine called Benadryl can be given a the dose of .5mg per lb - give it twice a day if needed. Vitamin C is a 'natural' antihistamine, that can be dosed at 100mg per 10lbs daily. High doses of essential fatty acids are critical, and the usual advised doses I find are too low. You should supplement your dog with either flax oil or fish oil, giving 1000mg per 10lbs daily. That equates to giving 1 tablespoon of flax per 50lbs daily.

Every dog with chronic dog odor problems, or ongoing allergies, should be on a hypoallergenic type dog food. I suggest that you feed your dog a food of simple ingredients, such as fish and sweet potato. Some clients have claimed that raw food was the answer to stopping the allergies and ending their dog's bad smell.

The last, but often most important step in treating your dog's odor problem is with proper bathing and shampoos. Often the smell is from secondary bacteria ( such as Staph), which overgrow in response to the allergy. Choose a medicated type shampoo that is designed to treat mild bacterial skin infections; I prefer ones that contain Sulfur and Salicylic acid. A holistic dog shampoo that can help is Tea Tree Oil & Aloe Vera Shampoo. Regardless, the key here is to wet your dog, lather them up and leave on their skin for 10 full minutes; use a clock. You must leave the shampoo on for a long enough period of time to be effective. After 10 minutes, thoroughly rinse. You can safely do this twice a week until the skin no longer smells.

Fear not- if your dog has a strong odor, there is a large number of things that you can do. Be systematic, carefully diagnosing the precise cause of the smell, and then following that up with veterinary care, or an appropriate remedy. If your dog has a skin infection, use some of the remedies I have discussed, in particular the shampoo, but doing it properly.

Do You Plan to Design a New Bathroom

Do You Plan to Design a New Bathroom

Do You Plan to Design a New Bathroom

I adore my bathroom. I look forward to the solace and peace I feel every time I spend time in that part of my home. I know many people can relate to my perspective about the bathroom. Taking a shower in the bathroom rejuvenates you at any time of the day. Many bathrooms are designed explicitly with warm colors that help you relax while soaking up the warm, soothing water after a long day at work.

It is common to feel the need to remodel your bathroom after a while; this decision might be based on changing preferences or a picture you saw. Redesigning the bathroom is an exciting change anyone will look forward to experiencing. Some of the factors to be considered during this project will be the space you have to work with, the users and your design.

 Creating a unique bathroom layout

Your choices for a bathroom layout will be made from the three general plans for wet wall layouts. This arrangement includes marking out the part of your bathroom where the plumbing fittings will be run through to supply water to the toilet, shower, basin, etc. The choices for wet wall layout are one, two or three layout patterns for the wet wall.

The layout of a one wet wall system will have the toilet, sink and shower plumbing run along the same side in your bathroom wall, it is a simple plumbing system which is also affordable. However, your bathroom suite choices will be limited to this plumbing system.

You will be able to install a variety of bathroom suite models with the two wet wall system. In this case, the plumbing for the shower is fitted on one side your bathroom, and the layout for the toilet, basin, etc. are on another side of the bathroom wall.

You will have the freedom of flexibility in making remodeling decisions with the three wet wall layout here the plumbing is run on any of the three walls in your bathroom. It is quite expensive, but you will have more remodeling options to achieve the best bathroom design.

Choosing the best lighting for your bathroom

The considerations for a good lighting pattern will include the position of your sink, toilet, and shower area. Your goal is to create a spectacular ambiance while ensuring that essential parts of your bathroom are well lit. Most modern bathroom designs have the lights set above at strategic positions.

Bathroom lighting options are quite vast; you can get more tips on our Bathroom lighting buyers guide.

 Remodeling Your Bathroom

The common experience many homeowners have is managing the space effectively while remodeling the bathroom. It should be a simple modern design with a walk in shower.

In the UK, the space constraint has compelled many homeowners to install a simple walk-in shower in their bathrooms, if you are lucky, you can find a decent tub, especially if you know you will be soaking in it often.

Depending on your budget, you could also have a quadrant shower enclosure installed. This way, your floors will be protected from spills, and these enclosures look very appealing in different designs. If you are not sure of what will fit in your bathroom, a professional assessment by an architect will help you make the best decisions.

Alternative wall finishing

We are so used to tiles on bathroom walls, but if you need something different and durable, you should consider using bathroom wall panels. They come in various designs and colors; you will also get the shower boards and shower wall panels for your bathroom. They are non-porous, easy to maintain, adequate for dry and wet areas and hygienic. Our bathroom wall boards are tongue and groove which makes installation an easy process. Bathroom wall boards are an excellent alternative to tiles, they can be used in every part of your bathroom, and the easy maintenance makes them a favorite option to give your bathrooms a new and unique look.

Flooring

The floor of your bathroom must be slip-proof for the safety of every user. Even on a tight budget, flooring options such as vinyl and laminate flooring materials will give you the perfect finishing without compromising your desired style.

Tiles are commonly used for bathroom floor finishing because they are durable even when exposed to moisture and steam from hot water.

Do You Need A Paper Towel Holder

Do You Need A Paper Towel Holder

Do You Need A Paper Towel Holder

Many people today are trying to cut back on the amount of utilities that they have to pay and when you do your own laundry, the water bill creeps up on you. In order to keep from having to wash too many dish towels from your kitchen, you may want to switch to using paper towels and getting yourself one of those great paper towel holders. Here are some excellent benefits that you will be able to enjoy as soon as you get one!

Everyone likes to have a nice, orderly home. If you are a neat freak and you like to have a place for everything, you need to have a place for your paper towels. A paper towel holder will help to implement this organization. There are plenty of sizes and ways to install these holders so seriously consider buying one of them! These days it is very rare to see the plain old plastic paper towel holders. There are many home furnishing designers that have come up with innovative ways to add a twist to the everyday paper towel holders.

When you are shopping for a new holder, look for something that will accent your kitchen. It should be placed in a visible spot by the sink. Even if you decide to go with something stylish, you do not have to worry about paying an arm and a leg. Paper towel holders are incredibly cost effective and can even be purchased online. Through online sites you can get a lot more variety at a much lower price. Most sites will have a higher stock amount that they need to unload in order to make a profit. This is why the price is so low for you as an online shopper.

Some people might not want to show off their towel holder. If this is the case why not buy one that you can install in your cupboards or even under the sink? These concealable options will allow you to save all of the counter space that you have and get to your towels whenever you need to. Do Not Miss Those 9 Things When Cleaning Your Windows

Maintaining your domestic windows clean sounds like an easy task, but it definitely isn't. It requires a great amount of effort on your part and much of your free time. It is, usually, a task that is completed during the warmer seasons. It may take a whole day, especially if your property is larger than an average-sized house.

In order to perform window cleaning without the help of a professional contractor, you will need to carefully plan the entire process in advance. Here is a short check-list of some of the main things that you need to take care of before you begin working:

1. All window cleaning companies recommend that you use professional tools in order to achieve the sparkling results that you are going for. Using the right tools as squeegees, window-washing soap, and high-quality applicators will take you one step closer to the desired results, no matter how experienced you are in cleaning.

2. A clean scrubber (preferably a new one). It is a good idea to change it before performing any major annual cleaning. For smaller weekly window cleaning projects you wont need to buy new ones every time. If you dont want to use a scrubber, you can always work with a lamb wool applicator, porcupine cleaner, or a sponge instead. Always keep in mind that a dirty applicator can leave dirt behind.

3. Avoid washing your windows during extremely hot days. Direct sunlight can superheat the glass and cause all sorts of streaking problems. Of course, you should also avoid rainy days. So, keeping the weather forecast in mind when thinking about your spring cleaning plan is definitely a good idea.

4. Read more about some popular techniques for holding the squeegee. Youd better hold it at an angle that wont allow water to run down the glass. It is a good idea to mimic the motion or setting off a snow plough.

5. Make sure that you wipe the rubber blade after each squeegee stroke. For this purpose, specialists recommend that you use a lint-free cloth. If you place a wet squeegee directly on the glass of the window that you are cleaning, it may leave a mark.

6. When you clean your windows, you need to be extra cautious in order to avoid potential damage and streaks. Glass surfaces can be damaged much easier than any wooden or plastic ones. Razors are usually the most dangerous cleaning tools, so youd better not risk with them unless you are absolutely confident in your cleaning skills.

7. For minor cleaning tasks, you can use any type of detergent, but if some heavy-duty window cleaning has to be done, youd better visit a local home improvement store and get some speciality window cleaning solutions for guaranteed results.

8. If the exterior of your windows cannot be easily reached, especially if you are not living on the first floor, youd better turn to a specialist who has extendible squeegees, high ladders, or climbing and protection equipment for that purpose. Youd better not do any climbing on your own if you are inexperienced, as you may easily harm yourself. Your safety should always be a bigger priority than a clean window. Accidents related to home cleaning are quite common, so dont neglect your safety.

9. If you create an annual window cleaning schedule and you wash your windows once every 3 months, it will be much easier for you to achieve good results. Regular cleaning will not require as much time as cleaning once a year when different types of dry dirt and dust is accumulated over them.

Sticking to this list will guarantee you that you wont forget even a single important step related to window cleaning.

Frame your Needs

The market is all studded with several options of the bath. Before going to buy, it is advised to have a market survey on the different types, trends and the style of the available baths. Always stick to a decision you have made. If you are thinking of clawfoot baths, then stick to it rather than looking for freestanding or the other types.

Keep an Eye on the Best Product within a Budget

Do not go for a cheap bath. This is going to be a costly affair in the long term. It is always advised to look out for the best baths within the stipulated budget. Wait for the companies to give out offers on special occasions when you are firm to buy. Buying a bath on sale in Perth is always going to be a win-win situation.

Choose the Type of Bath

The type of bath you choose must resemble with the theme of the bathroom you want to make. For example, the installation of the clawfoot baths is considered ideal for the bathrooms that are going to bear a traditional or contemporary look. The freestanding bath is considered suitable for all types of bathrooms. It renders an open space.

Conclusion

Undoubtedly, the addition of a bathtub is not only going to increase the worth of your bathroom but also the property. This is the reason why the selection has to be perfect and flawless.

Different Types of Home Inspection

Different Types of Home Inspection

Different Types of Home Inspection

The specific home inspection services youll need depends on the propertys age, architecture, location, and maintenance history, but its important to have a full understanding of the most prominent inspections so you can decide whether theyre right for you.

To give you a more specific snapshot of common types of home inspections that arent commonly thought of, weve created a list of services that are integral to fully assessing a homes long-term functionality, durability, and structural integrity:

Pest Inspections

These are home-wide inspections that place emphasis on examining a propertys foundation, basement, crawlspaces, and any other areas where moisture deposits could be present. Pest inspections are not required in every state, but they can become requisite if a home appraiser, acting on behalf of the buyer or their lender, declares the need for one in an appraisal report. Pest inspection reports identify all infestation areas, as well as areas that are at risk.

Chimney Inspections

Home inspectors will assess the degree of exhaust blockage in a chimney, resulting from soot deposits, bird nesting and creosotea carbon-based, tar-like chemical byproduct of burning wood and fossil fuels. Chimney inspections can be as simple as a mere eye test, or home inspectors can employ video scanning technology if blockages are suspected deeper in the flue.

Lead-Based Paint Inspections

In 1978, the U.S. government banned the use of lead-based paint during the construction of new homes. Many states even beat the fed to the punch by passing their own bans on the material, but there are still houses today with old, concealed coats of lead-based paint.

If the new, lead-free paint coating remains fully intact, the underlying lead-based coat wont present the same health risks; but if the newer coat has chipped or cracked in any way that exposes the lead-based layer, those living in such a home would be subject to numerous health issues, especially if any of the inhabitants are young children or pregnant.

This inspection is relatively standard, but highly recommended for homes with peeling paint, as well as those that have undergoneor will undergoconstruction. A Lead Inspector or Risk Assessor will collect random samples of dust and paint chips; theyll also use an X-ray fluorescence (XRF) detector, which emits a primary ray that will alter when in contact with lead molecules.

Soil Inspections

Not one of the first inspections you think of, but very important for homes resting on hillsides and properties prone to complications from soil erosion. Extremely moist soil can expand rapidly due to increased water saturation and retention. Over time, this can cause a propertys foundation to shift unevenly, which is incredibly dangerous for its inhabitants. To nip this in the bud, a state-licensed and registered soil engineer will assess moisture and sewage permeation to assess the structural integrity of septic and home drainage systems.

Square Footage Inspections

These are specialty inspections that are triggered by very specific circumstances, mainly square footage discrepancies between the sellers listing and the buyers appraisal report. Home offers, in part, are submitted and negotiated based on a propertys square footage. As such, even the tiniest differences can result in significant price fluctuation.

Zoning Inspections

Zoning compliance inspections are mostly meant to verify the number of rooms in a residence. Some homes may require only one, while others may need several if they are regularly renovated or expanded. Zoning guidelines will also differ by location, so your specific set of regulations may differ depending on where youre moving to. Major renovations, like a bathroom reconfiguration or full-scale exterior update from your local roofing or siding contractors, may trigger the need for zoning re-inspection, especially if the number of rooms in the newly remodeled home cannot be verified or certified through public records.

Different Types of Countertop Backsplashes

In this article we will be discussing countertop backsplashes. We will not be talking about tile backsplashes but instead we will be focusing on the options available if are you are going to be using a matching surface to the countertop deck.

Stone Backsplashes:

With stone backsplashes, your options are a standard backsplash and a full backsplash. With stone based products (i.e. granite, quartz), the industry standard backsplash is 4" high; custom sizes can be made depending on design preferences. Sometimes people factor in light switch heights, wall mirrors, or other items around the kitchen or bathroom to determine the height of their backsplash. Stone backsplashes can be cut around light switches if necessary. In most cases, the thickness of the stone backsplash will match the thickness of the horizontal surface.

With full backsplashes, the splash will go all the way up to the upper cabinets of the kitchen. This height is typically +/- 18" but can be custom made if necessary. In order to do a full height backsplash correctly, it normally requires that a second trip be made to install the backsplash. The reason for this is that the deck of the countertop should be installed to get the most accurate measurements. That template will then need to be cut and installed separately. It is important with granite that the backsplash be cut from the same lot of material so that there will be no color variation. Keep this in mind when considering adding on a granite splash at a later date; this is not recommended.

Solid Surface Backsplashes:

With solid surface products (i.e. Corian, Hi Macs), you have more options available to you because of the versatility of the product. Like with stone, you have the option of a standard backsplash and a full height backsplash, but you also have the option of making the standard sizes to be loose or coved. The standard height for solid surface backsplashes is 3" but it can be custom cut to different heights as well. Customers who have a very crooked back wall should opt for a loose backsplash in solid surface because the material is slightly flexible and can follow a wall that is not straight (this is not possible with stone). However, if they have a relatively straight back wall they can chose to cove the backsplash which means the splash and the deck will be connected, meaning their will be no gap between the two surfaces. Many people want this look in a bathroom area where there tends to be more water run off.

A tile acceptor is also possible with solid surface and not in stone. A tile acceptor means that the backsplash will be coved slightly and will come up just enough to meet the lowest tile and grout. This small height of splash between " and 1" prevents any water from getting to the bottom of the grout and tile and should help with the overall life of the tile.

Like with the stone, the solid surface backsplash can also be at full height. Again, due its flexibility, there should be fewer issues with the solid surface if the wall is not perfectly straight. The thickness of the solid surface backsplash is "
